Edinburgh Wanderings (part II)

We spent this weekend exploring Edinburgh my favourite way, we walked and we walked until we got delightfully lost in its beautiful winding streets and quirky wee alleyways. As well as revisiting some of our old favourites; Grassmarket, Victoria Street and Greyfriars Kirk to name a few we were excited to discover a few new places this trip...

“Edinburgh isn’t so much a city, more a way of life… I doubt I’ll ever tire of exploring Edinburgh, on foot or in print.” Ian Rankin

Always on the lookout for a good coffee shop; The Wall Coffee and Design house is a particular favourite of ours ☕

National Museum of Scotland

This was definitely another one on the Bucket List; with three floors full of intrigue, there was plenty to see and do. We didn't have a lot of time here before closing but ambling around the different exhibits was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon together. Having seen just enough to whet the appetite, from the beautiful interior to atoms, animals, flying airplanes and the unique Millenium Clock, (which we were able to catch in motion just before we went) we'll definitely have to revisit.

As it was just around the corner, we couldn't resist popping into Greyfriars Kirk on our way back. One of my favourite views of the city is from here. The first time we visited I found it very impressionable how you get a real feel for the city seeing all the buildings emerging on top of one another; it really is beautiful.

On Sunday, we stumbled upon every Instagrammers dream street, Circus Lane on the way to the Stockbridge Sunday market, where we had a pleasant morning browsing the charming & eclectic mix of independent traders.

The first part of our little weekend trip had come to an end but happily, Sam and I were able to stay for a few extra days. So, whilst we waited for our check in slot we decided to drive down to Leith Waterfront just in time for the sunset and definitely not so that Sam could check another lighthouse off his list...
