Fairytale adventures at Lake Vyrnwy

After a Friday night of dancing, gin and reminiscing our university days; Sunday called for adventures. I'd seen this beautiful Gothic castle pop up on my feed several times and so, we roped in our friend who lives nearby & off we went with his directions, and exclamations of disbelief that we'd never been, to discover the magic for ourselves.

Fully expecting it to be a lone structure beside the road, it was a pleasant surprise to discover the surrounding nature reserve and nearby sculpture trail nestled amidst the tall trees.

From the bridge... you can just see the tower in the distance.

After wandering around for a little while, we stopped by the bird hide; definitely one to return to for an afternoon or so. It was mesmerizing watching the birds flit across to the feeders; with the walls lined with information on each bird breed it was fun & easy to identify them too.

We drove all the way around the lake on our quest to find the tower; along the way, there were plenty of idyllic stopping places to go off and explore. One particular signpost for the 'Giants of Vyrnwy' caught my eye but alas, as the sun started to dip behind the mountains, it'll have to be an adventure for another day...

Plenty of perfect places for a snack around the lake; we always forget the flask... something to work on in 2019 haha.

And then, just as the sun had set; we found the tower - the perfect ending to a wonderful weekend of good company and new adventures.
