Safari Illustrations
2017 marked my first commissioned illustration. Just before Christmas, I was asked to draw an animal for a safari themed bedroom; such an open brief! It was actually surprisingly daunting when I first sat down to start... I had no idea where to begin. An afternoon on Pinterest soon helped with narrowing down what I wanted to draw, but now I was faced with actually putting pen to paper... what style should I go with? Should I add colour? What if isn't what they expected....?
Once I established a rough idea of what the client wanted, I was excited to create something just for them. The finished drawing led to three additional commissions; these a bit more specific, a monkey, elephant and giraffe. Overall, it was a really rewarding and exciting experience, especially seeing the drawings up in their new home and knowing someone is getting joy from something you've created.
This year, one of my focus words is creativity; I'd love to start creating art for others to enjoy. If you are interested in any illustration work, please feel free to get in touch. One of my intentions for this year, is also to open an online shop, so watch this space!
